Martin Kelly: Liverpool defender out injured until the new year

Liverpool's Martin Kelly has said he will be out of action until next year after sustaining a knee injury during the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United.

The 22-year-old England defender underwent a scan on Monday morning.

He told his Twitter followers: "It's not the worst injury I've had and I'll be fighting for my place next year when I'm back fitter and stronger."

Kelly's injury adds to Liverpool's injury worries as Daniel Agger suffered a suspected medial ligament injury.

The Denmark international was carried off on a stretcher during the second half of the loss to Manchester United which left Liverpool in the relegation zone and without a league victory this season.

"Agger's doesn't look good, the medics were saying it might be a medial ligament. We'll see," said manager Brendan Rodgers after his team's third defeat of the season.

Forward Fabio Borini is another injury concern after the £11m summer signing was replaced at half-time because of a bruised foot and a swollen ankle.

Liverpool have yet to confirm the extent of the injury to Kelly, a player who has featured at full-back in four of their five Premier League games so far this season.
